Liquid lipsticks have been all the rage recently, with brands popping them out here there and everywhere it’s hard choosing what ones to buy! I know the struggle!
MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour- Back in vogue (£17.50)
I got this last year when I was in Amsterdam when the first few shades of the Retro Mattes collection first came out! Now the colour is a lot more orangey than I normally like, but it was my favourite out of the options at the time. The formula is good, it takes a little while to dry and I do find it a little drying on my lips. Other than that they do last all day, which is a plus and they are so pigmented!
This is also my favourite ever applicator for a liquid lipstick, i just love it. I don’t even know why, the shape of it makes it so easy to apply and it is more of a harder sponge so it doesn’t bend and cause smudges! I definitely want to try some of their new shades!
Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kit – Candy K ($29/£23)
I only recently caved in and ordered from Kylie Cosmetics, you can see my full review on the brand here! After seeing so many mixed reviews about the lip kits, I didn’t know what to think! But suprisingly, I was impressed. The lip kits are very long lasting and I definitely didn’t find them as drying as others stated they were. The only thing that will put me off ordering from Kylie Cosmetics again is the shipping and custom fees. The lip kit is $29 which is around £23 which is reasonable for the brand you’re paying for, but after the shipping and custom fees I definitely do not think the price is worth it! You can get ones just as good for a fraction of the price, which means it probably will be a while before I order from Kylie Cosmetics again!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – Lolita 1 (£17)
This is definitely the product that youtube made me buy and this is also the product I am most disappointed in! A lot of people absolutely rave about the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks but honestly, I hate it! The formula is so watery, it takes forever to dry and they apply so streaky. It takes at least a couple of coats to get an even finish, and then you’ve applied so much product that your lips feel horribly dry. The shade of Lolita 1 is also a lot darker than I expected! The only good thing I can say for this is that they are very pigmented and the packaging is so pretty! I do want to try another Kat Von D liquid lipstick in the hope I just got a bad batch, but I can’t justify spending another £17 on one!
Onto the drugstore liquid lipsticks, honestly I prefer these to most of the ones listed above!
Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit – Reign (£6)
Okay, I absolutely love the shade of this lipstick. It’s the perfect nude and I get so many compliments on it! I done a full review on all of the Retro Matte Lip Kits I bought which you can read here!
The formula for these lip kits is very matte, they dry very quickly and are not drying on the lips at all! The shades are very pigmented and do last a while, the colour does fade throughout the day but you can still clearly see there is some product on your lips. The only problem I had with these lip kits is that I found them slightly sticky. This doesn’t bother me much, but sometimes it can feel a little weird! But for the price, you really can’t complain!
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet – Don’t pink of it (£8.99)
If you have been following my blog for a while, you’ll have seen me rave about these liquid lipsticks a few times! Most recently in my 2016 favourites! I love these liquid lipsticks. The formula is insane, they dry so quickly, you get an even coverage in one layer and they last all day! They are so pigmented and so affordable, what’s not to love?!
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream – Stockholm (£5.50)
Ready for a really unpopular opinion? I hate these. After hearing them raved about from everyone and their mother, I was so excited to try them! The formula isn’t my favourite, it takes forever to dry, my lips feel very dry with it on and they are so streaky. It takes more than one coat to get an even coverage! They’re basically the cheaper version of the Kat Von D liquid lipstick, which since they’re only £5.50 i’m not too bothered by the price!
NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick – Soft Spoken (£6.50)
I have absolutely no idea why these liquid lipsticks aren’t more popular than the soft mattes. They are 100 times better! The formula is amazing, they dry so quickly, you get an even coverage in one layer and they don’t make your lips feel like sand paper! I love this product! It is also an exact dupe for Kat Von D – Lolita 1, look at the swatches below!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – NYX Liquid Suede – Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kit – NYX Soft Matte – Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte – MAC Retro Matte – Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick – Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet.
Overall, in comparing them all it does show that most of the time you are just paying for the brand rather than the quality.
Don’t get me wrong some of the higher end products definitely are worth the money, for example the Jeffree Star liquid lipstick and there are probably many more out there that I haven’t tried yet that are too! But there are also cheaper alternatives that are just as good, like the NYX liquid suede lipstick!
I loved writing this post and I hope that it was helpful to you in one way or another!
Have you tried any of these liquid lipsticks? are your opinions different from mine?
